How much does a walk-in wardrobe cost?
- Custom wardrobe carpentry: about $200 to $450 per foot run, depending on finish, height and fittings.
- Laminate swing wardrobes: about $200 to $320 per foot run; sliding doors about $250 to $400.
- Taller units: rates usually cover heights up to about 2.4m, with a 10 to 20% surcharge above that.
- Removing old built-ins: about $150 to $400.

HDB rules to know
- Joining two rooms means removing a wall, which needs HDB's written approval and a DRC-listed contractor. Structural walls cannot be removed. Check a wall with our Can I hack this wall? tool.
- The household shelter must not be hacked or drilled, so you cannot fix wardrobe carpentry to its walls. A free-standing wardrobe inside the shelter avoids drilling.
- Carpentry itself generally does not need a permit, but renovation works should be done by a contractor in HDB's Directory of Renovation Contractors.
