Laundry Drying Rack Singapore: Choosing a Rack
| Rack type | Best for | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Manual ceiling rack (pulley or winder) | HDB service yards and kitchens | Lowered and raised by rope or hand crank, with no power point needed |
| Wall-mounted rack | Low ceilings, balconies, condo yards | Folds against the wall when not in use |
| Retractable or sliding rack | Window-side drying | Slides out over the window ledge where allowed |
| Automated (electric) rack | Heavy daily loads, lights and drying | Plugs into a socket. See automated laundry racks |
Most HDB households need 4 to 6 poles. Check the load rating on any rack, since wet laundry for a family can weigh 10 to 15kg.

What We Check Before Installing
- Ceiling type. Concrete ceilings hold the rack directly. False ceilings need the rack fixed to the slab above, or a wall-mounted rack instead.
- Height and clearance. The rack must clear windows, the washing machine and any ceiling light or pipe.
- Load. Fixings are matched to the rack's rated load so it does not pull out of the ceiling over time.
- HDB rules. Racks fitted inside your flat do not need an HDB permit. Bamboo pole holders outside the window are part of the HDB block, so we leave them as they are. See our HDB bamboo pole holder guide.
Drilling counts as noisy work in HDB flats, so we schedule installations on weekdays between 9am and 5pm.
Areas We Cover
We take drying rack jobs islandwide. Our workshop is at Mandai Estate, so Woodlands, Yishun, Sembawang and Admiralty are the quickest for us to reach, and we regularly cover Punggol, Sengkang, Ang Mo Kio, Tampines, Bedok, Jurong and the rest of Singapore.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does it cost to install a laundry drying rack in Singapore?
Installing a manual rack you have already bought typically costs $80 to $150. Supply and installation depends on the model and number of poles, so we quote it from photos of your ceiling.
Can a drying rack be installed on a false ceiling?
Not directly. The rack has to be fixed through to the concrete slab above, or we suggest a wall-mounted rack instead.
Do I need HDB approval for a ceiling drying rack?
No. A drying rack installed inside your flat does not need an HDB renovation permit.
Can you remove my old drying rack?
Yes. We take down the old rack and patch the screw holes, usually as part of installing the new one.
Do you install motorised drying racks?
Yes. We install plug-in automated racks, typically $100 to $180 for a rack you have bought. If there is no socket nearby, a new power point must be done by an EMA licensed electrical worker.
