- Raises and lowers at a button. No winding or pulling ropes, which helps with heavy loads and high ceilings.
- Built-in light. Most models light the service yard so you can hang laundry at night.
- Drying functions. Many have a fan (air dry), warm-air drying or UV light to cut damp smells during wet weather.
- Remote or app control. Some models connect to a phone app or smart home hub.
- Safety stop. Better models stop automatically if the rack meets an obstacle on the way down.

Plug-In Models and Power Points
We install plug-in automated racks, which run off a normal 3-pin socket. Before installing, we check from your photos whether there is a socket close enough to the rack position for the power cable.
- Socket already nearby. The rack plugs straight in and the cable is tidied along the ceiling or wall with trunking.
- No socket nearby. A new power point is needed. In Singapore, new electrical wiring must be done by an EMA licensed electrical worker, so this is arranged and charged separately before the rack goes up.
- Never run an extension cord across the service yard to a rack. Service yards get wet, so the power point should be placed and protected properly.

What to Check Before You Buy
- Ceiling type. Concrete ceilings take the rack directly. False ceilings need the rack fixed through to the slab above.
- Ceiling height and window clearance. The rack must clear the window when lowered and raised, and sit above head height.
- Load rating. Pick a rack rated for your household's wet laundry, often 25 to 35kg for a family.
- Rack length. Measure the service yard. Most racks come in about 1.2 to 2.4m lengths.
- Socket position. Take a photo showing the ceiling and the nearest socket, so we can tell you whether a new power point is needed.
Drilling counts as noisy work in HDB flats, so installations are scheduled on weekdays between 9am and 5pm. Racks inside your flat do not need an HDB permit, and the bamboo pole holders outside the window are part of the HDB block, so we leave them as they are.
