Digital Lock Repair: Common Faults and Fixes
- Lock dead or keypad not lighting up. Usually flat batteries or corroded battery contacts. Many locks have an emergency power point, such as a 9V terminal or USB port, to wake the lock so you can get in. Check your manual.
- Bolt will not extend or retract. On doors and gates, this is often a misaligned strike plate or a door that has dropped, so the bolt rubs. Realigning the strike plate or the door often fixes it. A grinding sound can mean a worn motor or mortise.
- Fingerprint reader not working. Dirty or scratched sensors, or fingerprints enrolled badly. We clean the sensor and re-enrol fingerprints. A failed sensor needs a part from the brand.
- Handle loose or dropping. A loose spindle, worn spring or loose fixing screws, tightened or replaced.

Digital Locks on HDB Fire-Rated Main Doors
HDB main doors that open onto a fire escape route, such as a staircase or lift lobby, are fire-rated. HDB's door guidelines say that under SCDF requirements, digital locksets on these doors must be certified with a Certificate of Conformity to SS 332 or EN 1634-1, issued by a local Certification Body. So if a lock on a fire-rated door needs replacing, the new lock must carry that certification.
