Grab Bar Installation Singapore: Where to Fit Them
- Beside the toilet bowl. A straight or fold-up bar to help with sitting down and standing up. A fold-up bar suits narrow HDB toilets.
- In the shower. A straight or L-shaped bar near the tap, so you can hold on while washing. Pair it with a shower screen to keep the rest of the floor dry.
- At the basin. A bar beside or in front of the basin for support while standing.
- At the toilet door and corridor. Bars at steps and along the route from bedroom to toilet, where most night-time falls happen.
Choose stainless steel or nylon-coated bars rated for body weight. Suction-cup bars are not a substitute for fixed bars and should not take your full weight.

How Grab Bars Are Fixed Safely
A grab bar is only as strong as its fixing. We drill through the tile with a tile bit and fix into the concrete or brick behind it with suitable anchors, then seal around the fixings so water does not get in. Board and partition walls need solid backing first, so let us know if the wall sounds hollow.
Before drilling, we check for concealed water pipes, which often run behind the tap and shower set. If an old bar has left holes, they are filled and sealed, or see our hole repair service for larger damage.
HDB runs the Enhancement for Active Seniors (EASE) programme, which offers subsidised grab bars on a supply and install basis for eligible households, for example where a family member is 65 or older. Check HDB's EASE page to see if you qualify before paying privately.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does grab bar installation cost in Singapore?
Installing the first bar typically costs $65 to $80, and each extra bar in the same visit about $20 to $70. A set of three straight bars supplied and installed is about $220.
Can grab bars be installed on tiled walls?
Yes. We drill through the tile with a tile bit and fix into the concrete or brick behind, then seal the fixings.
Where should grab bars go in a toilet?
The most useful spots are beside the toilet bowl, in the shower near the tap, and at the basin. A bar at the toilet door helps with the step in many HDB flats.
Does HDB give grab bars for seniors?
HDB's EASE programme offers subsidised grab bars for eligible households, for example where a family member is 65 or older. Check HDB's EASE page for the current eligibility and costs.
Are suction grab bars safe?
Suction bars can help with balance, but they can come loose and should not take your full weight. Fixed bars are the safer choice.
