Window Film Singapore: Types of Film
| Film | Best for | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Solar (heat control) film | West-facing rooms, living rooms, bedrooms | Cuts heat and glare. Ceramic films keep a clearer view than reflective ones |
| One-way privacy (reflective) film | Windows facing a corridor or a neighbour | Mirror-like from the brighter side. At night, with lights on inside, people can see in |
| Frosted film | Toilets, kitchen windows, glass doors, office partitions | Blocks the view but lets light through, day and night |
| Decorative film | Glass doors and partitions | Patterns or gradient frosting |
Film works on the glass, so it reduces heat before it enters the room. Many homes combine it with blinds for night privacy. See roller blinds and honeycomb blinds.

Before You Fit Window Film
- Condos. A reflective film changes how your windows look from outside. Check your MCST by-laws on facade appearance first.
- Old film. Peeling or bubbled film has to come off before new film goes on. The adhesive is scraped and cleaned off the glass.
- Glass condition. Film will not fix a cracked pane or a leaking frame. For window repairs, see handyman services.
- Privacy at night. One-way film only works when it is brighter outside. Pair it with blinds or curtains for night privacy.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does window film cost in Singapore?
Solar film is typically $5 to $8 per sq ft installed, and premium series $10 to $13. A 4-room HDB is about $540 to $760, and frosted privacy film is about $3 to $5 per sq ft.
Does window film reduce heat?
Yes. Solar film blocks part of the sun’s heat at the glass. Ceramic films do this while keeping a fairly clear view.
Does one-way window film work at night?
No. It works when it is brighter outside than inside. At night, with lights on, people can see in, so you still need blinds or curtains.
Can window film be removed?
Yes. Film can be peeled off and the adhesive cleaned from the glass. Old, sun-baked film takes longer to remove, which is why removal is quoted separately.
Can I put film on my condo windows?
Usually, but some condos have by-laws on reflective or tinted glass. Check with your MCST before fitting film on windows that face outside.
