Wallpaper Installation Singapore: Types and Where They Fit
| Wallpaper type | Best for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Vinyl or PVC-coated | Most rooms, kids' rooms, rental units | Wipeable and handles humidity well. Can trap damp if the wall behind is wet. |
| Non-woven | Bedrooms and living rooms | Breathes better and is easier to remove later. Slightly less wipeable. |
| Textured or embossed | Feature walls, hiding minor wall flaws | Costs more and takes longer to match patterns. |
| Natural fibre (grasscloth, fabric) | Dry, air-conditioned rooms | Stains easily and dislikes humidity. Avoid kitchens and bathrooms. |
| Peel-and-stick | Rentals, short-term changes | Easy to remove but can lift at the edges in humid weather. |
For bathrooms and wet kitchen walls, paint or panels usually last longer than wallpaper. If you are deciding between finishes, our feature wall page compares wallpaper, paint and panels.
Wallpaper Installation Price in Singapore
Typical 2026 market prices. Material is the biggest variable: a standard vinyl roll costs far less than a designer import.
| Job | Typical price |
|---|---|
| Installation labour only, your own wallpaper | $15 to $40 per roll |
| One feature wall, supplied and installed | $400 to $900 |
| One bedroom, supplied and installed | $700 to $1,500 |
| HDB living room, supplied and installed | $1,200 to $2,500 |
| Old wallpaper removal | $40 to $100 per wall |
| Wall repair or skim coat before papering | Quoted after photos |
| Material | Typical price per roll |
|---|---|
| Vinyl or PVC wallpaper | $30 to $80 |
| Non-woven wallpaper | $50 to $150 |
| Natural fibre or designer wallpaper | $100 to $300+ |
Patterns with a large repeat need more rolls and more labour to match. Holes and cracks are filled before papering; for bigger damage see hole repair.
Wall Preparation and Humidity
Most wallpaper failures in Singapore come from the wall, not the paper. Before we hang anything, we check for:
- Damp or mould. Wallpaper over a damp wall traps moisture and mould grows behind it. The wall must be dry and any mould treated first. See mould removal and our wall mould guide.
- Loose or flaking paint. Scraped back and sealed so the paste grips the wall.
- Uneven or patched walls. Filled and sanded, because thin wallpaper shows every bump.
- Old wallpaper. Removed rather than papered over, so seams do not show and the new paper sticks properly.
Keep freshly papered rooms ventilated for a few days and avoid pointing the aircon straight at new seams while the paste dries.
Wallpaper in HDB Flats
HDB's renovation guidelines list wallpaper as a wall finish that does not need a permit. You can paper walls in any room of an HDB flat without applying for approval. Wallpaper is also easy to remove later, which makes it popular for rental units and kids' rooms that will change as they grow.
If you are planning a wider renovation, see our HDB interior design page, and for whole-room repainting see painting services.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does wallpaper installation cost in Singapore?
Labour alone is typically $15 to $40 per roll. Supplied and installed, one feature wall is about $400 to $900 and a bedroom about $700 to $1,500, depending on the wallpaper you choose.
Can you install wallpaper that I bought myself?
Yes. Send us the product details and the wall sizes, and we will confirm the number of rolls needed and the labour price.
Do I need an HDB permit for wallpaper?
No. HDB's renovation guidelines list wallpaper as a wall finish that does not need a permit.
Can wallpaper be used in Singapore's humidity?
Yes, if the wall is dry and the paper suits the room. Vinyl and non-woven papers handle humidity well. Avoid natural fibre papers in kitchens and bathrooms, and treat any damp or mould before papering.
Do you remove old wallpaper?
Yes. Old wallpaper removal typically costs $40 to $100 per wall. We remove it before hanging new paper so the seams do not show and the new paper bonds properly.
